Ireland’s foremost producer of jazz and ethnic music, Improvised Music Company host ‘pop-up’ jazz club STRUT on the Peacock stage of the Abbey Theatre this November, with an exciting programme of top-level international and Irish acts.

From New Yorks ‘Village Vanguard’ to London’s ‘Ronnie Scott’s’, the quintessential jazz club has always been at the fulcrum of urban musical creativity. The intimate setting and dynamic between audience and musician make the jazz club the heart of every city’s scene. This November it is Dublin’s turn to dig that vibe, that energy, and that incomparable jazz club atmosphere as STRUT takes to the Peacock stage, offering Dubliners an intimate journey of jazz discovery.

Opening the Club on Wednesday 18th November with some gloriously funky fusion is Danish organ trio Ibrahim Electric, with their intoxicating and unique blend of funk, groove and Afro Beat.

Thursday night sees some of our finest Irish jazz exports in collaboration with exciting young talents from the European scene. Lauren Kinsella’s exceptional art-rock group Blue-Eyed Hawk take license from the poetry of Yeats to create an utterly refreshing soundscape. The late show on Thursday will be a new venture from a trio bearing one of the most regarded names in Irish jazz, as a trifecta of Guilfoyle’s - Ronan, Conor and Chris - present their rhythmically adventurous approach to improvisation as 3G, in concert with a rising star on trumpet, Gerhard Ornig, from Austria.

And it’s not only the Yeat’s references that tie this Pop-Up Jazz Club to our National Theatre. One of the STRUT highlights is the return of Irish jazz guitar legend Louis Stewart to the Peacock stage, 36 years after the live recording of the seminal album Alone Together on those very boards.

Considered “one of the instruments world-class players” (Downbeat magazine), Stewart will be joined once again by esteemed flautist Brian Dunning for a reprise of their seminal 1979 live recording, with guest bassist Neil O’Loghlen for what promises to be a captivating trio performance.
